Lake Kiowa Golf Course

The eighteen hole championship golf course is the main attraction of Lake Kiowa, and provides a rewarding experience for all golfers.

Featuring three sets of tees ranging from 6,605 yards at the championship tees to 5,085 from the forward tees, the course is easy enough for beginners but presents a challenge for more experienced players.

Built by Leon Howard in 1969, this private course has decades of history and experience and is open year round for even the most dedicated golfers.

The in-house golf pro is available to help at any time, and the pro shop is available for all your golfing needs.

The course is equipped with USGA regulation greens and a completely automatic sprinkler system using lake water. A full-time greens superintendent and grounds keeping crew maintain the course

Convenience is important at Lake Kiowa, as association fees cover all ground fees, which means members can golf every day at no extra cost.

Activities are abundant here, including the Men's and Women's Golf Associations. These associations invite membership for competing in tournaments and provide entertainment, as well as contribute toward beautifying the golf course.

Lake Kiowa Handicap System

The purpose of the USGA Handicap System is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by allowing players of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis.

Two basic premises underlie the USGA Handicap System, namely that each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review.  The player and the player’s Handicap Committee have joint responsibility for adhering to these premises.

All WGA and MGA members are automatically entered into the USGA Handicap System as part of their annual organizational dues.  Non-members wishing to establish a USGA handicap may do so by paying an annual fee to the pro shop.  It is the player’s responsibility to enter each acceptable score into the Handicap System immediately following the round.

Scores may be entered into thecomputerized Lake Kiowa Handicap system in the Pro Shop or online at https://www.ghin.com/login.  Instructions for the online system can be found here.

The USGA requires each golf club to establish a Handicap Committee to insure compliance with the USGA Handicap System, including peer review.  Please call one of the following if you have any questions about the USGA Handicap System, a question concerning your own handicap or a question concerning a fellow golfer’s handicap.  Peer review is an important part of the handicap system.  Any Handicap Committee member can answer your questions or correct errors.  The integrity of the USGA Handicap System is every player’s responsibility.

LAKE KIOWA HANDICAP COMMITTEE

Craig Lamkin, Chair – 903-814-9325
Margaret Dressel – 972-953-8679
Gerald Smith – 972-754-4607
John Wolek – 214-766-3920
Ronny Young – 940-736-5533
Brown McCrory – 940-665-6480

The Handicap Committee is responsible for all aspects of the USGA Handicap System including the computation of each player’s Handicap Index. The Handicap Committee must verify that all acceptable scores are reported for handicap purposes and that all recorded scores are available for peer review.

The Handicap Committee is responsible for insuring that a player's USGA Handicap Index reflects their potential ability. The committee has the authority to adjust an individual’s Handicap Index under any circumstance that it feels necessary to do so.  If the Committee believes that an adjustment to your Handicap Index is warranted, you will be notified in writing and have an opportunity to explain the circumstances before any adjustment takes affect.

The Handicap Committee also has the authority to post a penalty score if a player fails to post an acceptable score as soon as practical following the round.  The committee is not required to notify the player prior to posting a penalty score.

The Handicap Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the club’s golf organizations to insure fair and equitable competition.  In addition they serve to educate our golfing community about the Handicap System and The Rules of Golf through regular “Did You Know…” articles in the Communiqué.  Click here to view the latest DYK.

If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns about the Handicap System or Lake Kiowa golf in general, contact any member of your Handicap Committee.
